This is the honest version — what actually happens at each step, how long it really takes, and the two or three things that quietly slow a project down.
Stage 1 — The consultation: where a brief takes shape
Come with references, not a finished answer.The single most useful thing you can bring is evidence of what your partner actually wears: photos of their existing jewellery, screenshots they've saved, a moodboard of rings they've reacted to. Angular, architectural taste (emerald cuts, tapered baguettes) points a very different way to soft and romantic (ovals, halos, hidden detail), and a good designer reads that faster from three saved images than from an hour of description.
Your designer will work through diamond shape and proportions, style direction, metal, and — the part people skip — a real budget and a real timeline. We'd rather know you're working to a proposal date or a firm number up front than surprise you later. If you have an heirloom stone or old family gold, flag it now; resetting a family diamond changes the design conversation from the first minute.
We offer three consultation formats through our booking page: a 30-minute virtual call (video, anywhere in Australia or overseas), a 45-minute studio visit in Melbourne, and a 30-minute design review for existing clients finalising renders. Stage 2 — Curated diamond selection
We hand-pick a shortlist; you don't scroll a spreadsheet. Once shape, budget and quality targets are set, we select a small range of stones that genuinely match — not a bulk list padded with poor cuts. Each option comes with an independent certificate, a 360-degree video so you can judge sparkle and any inclusions yourself, and a plain-English note on why it earns its place.
We sell both natural and lab-grown diamonds and lean strongly toward lab-grown: same crystal structure, same optical performance, independently graded, at roughly 80-90% less per carat than a comparable natural stone in 2026. That gap is why couples routinely size up a centre stone without overspending — the trade-off is informed choice, not a compromise on the stone itself. One genuinely new 2026 detail worth knowing: since October 2025, GIA issues lab-grown reports on a simplified two-tier "Premium/Standard" label rather than the specific letter grades it uses for natural stones. IGI still issues full traditional 4Cs reports — the familiar D-to-Z colour and FL-to-I3 clarity scale — for lab-grown diamonds, and grades an estimated 70%+ of certified lab-grown stones worldwide. Stage 3 — Your transparent quote
You receive a detailed quotation, not a single mystery number: your diamond options with full specifications, the setting and metal, CAD and revisions included, warranty terms, the production timeline, and payment options. Pricing is GST-inclusive and protected under Australian Consumer Law.
Two honest caveats. First, the metal component reflects the gold or platinum price on the day your quote is issued — precious-metal prices move daily, so a quote is a snapshot, not a figure that holds for months. Second, a deposit secures your quote and locks in your chosen diamond so it isn't sold to someone else while you decide. Stage 4 — CAD and 3D visualisation
See the ring before a gram of metal is cast.Your brief becomes a precise 3D CAD model: exact diamond proportions, band width and thickness, claw shape and placement, the side profile, basket and gallery detail, and top- and finger-view renders. This is where "I think I want a lower profile" becomes a decision you can actually see.
You then request refinements — slimmer claws, a thinner band, softer shoulders, a hidden accent — until it's right. Industry norm is around three rounds of revisions, roughly a few days' turnaround each; most designs settle inside that. Nothing goes to the workshop until you approve the final render, because changing metal is far more expensive than changing a file.
Stage 5 — Crafting in our Australian workshop
Once you approve the render, your ring is hand-made in our Melbourne workshop. Our jewellers cast your chosen metal — 18k yellow, white or rose gold, or platinum (14k where a lighter cost matters) — then file, shape and finish it by hand, set your diamond using traditional bench technique, and polish to a high-shine or satin finish. Our headline timeline is around three weeks from payment; more complex designs or a specific diamond search take longer, and we confirm a clear timeline before you pay. The bench work is the bulk of that window, and complexity drives it — a clean solitaire is quicker than a hand-engraved pavé halo, which can push the total out. We won't rush a setting to hit a date at the cost of the finish.
Stage 6 — Quality control and inscription
Before release, every piece gets a final polish, a stone-security check, cleaning and presentation, Savoir-Faire packaging, and your lifetime warranty documentation. Two things people conflate are worth separating clearly here:
- The grading lab's inscription:a microscopic laser mark on the diamond's girdle matching its certificate number. This is the independent verification — it confirms the stone in your ring is the exact stone on the report. It's done by the lab, not by us.
- An optional personal inscription: a message, date or initials engraved inside the band by our workshop. Purely sentimental, entirely up to you, and unrelated to the certificate.
A note on metal stamps: Australia has no compulsory hallmarking or assay-office system like the UK's. A fineness stamp (18ct, 950 Pt) is the jeweller's own mark made in good faith and governed by Australian Consumer Law, not a third-party assay. So on your finished ring, the diamond's grading — certificate plus girdle inscription — is independently verified; the metal purity mark is our own declaration. We say this plainly because some buyers assume every stamp is externally audited, and it isn't.
Stage 7 — The reveal and aftercare
Your ring is presented with its diamond certificate, warranty documentation, care instructions, a cleaning cloth and a keepsake box. Collect it in person in Melbourne, or receive it by free, fully insured shipping — 3-5 business days transit to Australian metro areas after dispatch, up to around 10 business days for some international destinations.
Aftercare is a live policy, not marketing gloss. You get a lifetime warranty on workmanship, and one complimentary resize within 12 months of delivery (we cover return postage). Resizes after 12 months, or additional resizes, are charged at cost, as is lifetime cleaning and care. Warranty claims are acknowledged within 2 business days and typically resolved within about 10. Do you offer lab-grown and natural diamonds?
Both. We lean toward lab-grown for the value and independent grading, but natural is available if you prefer it. It's an informed choice, not a compromise either way.
